PPE cautions that a compression ring is only a quick, low cost, temporary fix for
worn leaking barrels that won't hold compression. For example, on a nitralloy
barrel nitrided, once your barrel is worn past the original nitrided surfaces of the
original inside diameter, wear increases at an accelerated rate especially with
a compression ring made of harder material pushing out against your barrel I.D.
There is no substitute for a barrel, screw and check ring valve properly sized and
engineered for any given application.
PPE does not completely approve of the use of a compression ring as a
temporary fix for a worn barrel. However, since you, our customer, have
requested them, we are making them available only as a quick temporary fix.
However we have discovered some molders install these rings on new screws
and barrels.
